Seven cities home to most Dominicans in the US: Study

New York.- Nine states and seven American cities are home to most of the Dominicans in the U.S. as of 2011, according to the latest study on Latinos released by Washington’s Pew Research Center.

The report says 1. 2 million Dominicans live in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts Virginia and New York State, topped by New York City and followed by northeastern New Jersey with 898,000, while Boston and other New England towns have 98,000.

Pew Research lists Hialeah, Florida, with 62,000; Providence, Rhode Island 36,000, Orlando, Florida, 33,000; Philadelphia, 32,000; Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, 22,000; Washington DC, Maryland/Virginia, 16,000, Tampa/St. Petersburg, with14,000, followed by West Palm Beach/Boca Raton, Florida, with 12,000.

The report says Dominicans in New York represent 20.89% of the Latino population, behind Puerto Ricans (28.49%) and ahead of Mexicans, at 12.29%.
