Cops drug-stealing ‘routine’: Prosecutor
Santo Domingo.- The theft of drugs in the Police Narcotics Division (DICAN) was part of a routine among some senior and junior officers, Justice minister Francisco Dominguez revealed Thursday, citing the investigate commission’s preliminary results of the case.
"At first it was said to be 1,200 kilos of cocaine that was stolen, but the amount of stolen drugs is unknown thus far. The investigation has been widened to determine how the network was conducted," the official said.
"I can’t tell you how much because first that was just one case, and second, there’re many things that vary. There were more than one case, so what interests us mostly is the structure," he said.
Dominguez added that the investigation also links others who may be subject to charges, not only the DICAN’s police officers. "More than anything we’re focused on the network and its MO. I don’t want to present a particular action and most of all what we’re investigating is the structure of the network."
