Judge paroles convict in Puerto Rican kingpin case

San Cristobal, Dominican Republic.- San Cristobal District judge Willis de Jesus on Friday ruled to parole Mary Pelaez, convicted of money laundering in the case of the network headed by Puerto Rican kingpin Jose David Figueroa Agosto.

The judge said Peláez, daughter of the late comedian Milton Pelaez, qualifies for release. She had requested parole in three occasions, two of which were denied at the prosecution’s request.

Pelaez has to abide by several conditions including a bans on visiting places where alcoholic beverages are sold and travel out of the country; a fixed place of residence and to appear before the Office of the National District Prosecutor whenever she’s notified.

She said she was sorry for her actions and that she’ll conduct herself properly from now on.
