Police nab hired guns of Dominican Republic’s most wanted fugitive

Santo Domingo.- The authorities have recently arrested several key members of the ring headed by fugitive Pascual Jesus Cabrera Ruiz, and groups which have been reorganizing in the east region to take over organized crime operations of convicted kingpins Antonio del Rosario Puente (Toño Leña) and Jose David Figueroa Agosto (Junior Capsula).

Among those arrested on drug trafficking charges figures Kelvin Hernandez Flaquer, who authorities linked to Figueroa in 2009.

He was sentenced to five years in prison for money laundering in 2010 in a case in which Luis Antonio Matos Mendoza was also convicted, though Fernandez subsequently obtained his release.

He was arrested again last week together with José Esteban Medina Ubiera (Oreja), Henry William Castillo Paulino (Tulile), Ricardeau Barjón (Dodo), Lenín Aneudis Morales Santana (Joselo), Carlos Manuel Cordero Ozuna (el Flaco) and José Ramón Berroa Carrasco (Gurimbo), charged with forming part of a drug trafficking ring which according to outlet eldia.om.do is headed by Cabrera Ruiz.

Hernández and others were apprehended during a raid to rescue Dominican-Spaniard Antonio Juan Farias, a case which La Romana District Court will arraign him Friday on kidnapping charges.

Another case that has far reaching links is that of Police major Miguel Antonio Suárez Silfa, who along with his wife Elena Aurora Hernández Acevedo and Máximo Francisco Guzman Perez (Oli), are being held on the confiscation of RD$33 million allegedly from drug trafficking.

Investigators say Suárez Silfa is Cabrera Ruiz’ top operator and hired killer, together with Guzman Perez (Oli).

Suarez Silva was extradited to Puerto Rico for drug trafficking in 2008, when he started serving five years and returned to the country two years ago.
