Flash flood warnings for north region; high Atlantic surf

Santo Domingo.- Emergency Operations Center (COE) on Friday issued flash flood warnings for several provinces along the Atlantic Coast, on swelled rivers and streams and higher than normal waves.

It said the downpours affect mostly Espaillat and Puerto Plata provinces, and issued flash flood alerts for Santiago, María Trinidad Sánchez and Duarte, especially the Yuna River’s lower basin.

Swollen rivers have cut off the towns of Guazaro, Arroyo al Medio, Majagual, Clabozo, Monte Llanos, El Guayabo and Los Toros, in María Trinidad Sánchez.

COE also advises small craft to remain in port from Manzanillo in the west to Cabo Engaño in the east.

The National Weather Office -Onamet- forecasts strong to moderate rains with thunderstorms for most regions, from a frontal system over the country.
