Santo Domingo.- The United States Coast Guard on Saturday said it intercepted a boat captained by an unidentified Russian national carrying 1,700 pounds (770 kilos) of marijuana worth US$1.6 million, in waters south of the Dominican Republic.
The Coast Guard, which didn’t provide further details, said the 40-foot boat was considered suspicious by a patrol between Dominican and Puerto Rican territorial waters.
It said its officers were on a routine patrol near Key Largo, where they first spotted the ship, adding that the vessel had been previously searched in Finland, where an unspecified among of drug was seized.
