Medina heads military parade to mark Battle of March 1

Azua, Dominican Republic.- President Danilo Medina headed the military parade to mark the 171st anniversary of the Battle of March 19, the first major clash against the Haitian occupation after the declaration of Independence on Feb. 27.

Medina arrived at Azua’s central park to a 21-gun salute and for over an hour observed troops, military vehicles and school children and other Azua province representatives pay homage to the small battalion of Dominicans which defeated a Haitian regiment.

The parade highlighted members of Dominican Republic’s Army, Air Force and Navy displaying modern weapons and military equipment.
