Santo Domingo.- Bachata, the bluesy local rhythm that has spread like no other Dominican style worldwide, will be declared a musical heritage of the Dominican Republic, for which the State is committed to preserve it, promote it and expand it.
A bill submitted to the Chamber of Deputies on Tuesday stipulates that the musical style is to be promoted as a national symbol, in charge of the Culture Ministry.
Chamber of Deputies Culture Committee chairman Manuel Jimenez stressed the importance of the declaration. "This law will give a boost to one of our two brands in music, to be recognized as part of our musical identity."
