Rally to mark 1965 Revolution targets corrupt Dominican officials
Santo Domingo.- Several political organizations will stage a demonstration outside Independencia Park starting 4:30pm Friday to mark the 50th anniversary of the 1965 Revolution and demand punishment for corrupt officials.
The organizations Patria para Todos, Frente Amplio, Alianza por la Democracia (APD), Partido Revolucionario Moderno (PRM), Movimiento Rebelde, La Multitud, Camina RD and others urge citizens to join their peaceful and patriotic activity.
"On April 24, 1965, the Dominican people rose against the breakdown of constitutional order and the imposition of corrupt sectors affecting society that came from the Trujillo dictatorship. Today, as yesterday, similar sectors seek to subdue Dominican citizens and condemn it to accept the theft against the people as a plausible fact,” the groups said.
“But we will not allow it. We will keep fighting until the arm of justice is enforced equally to all people who inhabit this half of an island of Francisco Caamaño De Deñó and Rafael Fernández Domínguez," says the statement.
“On Friday 24, it adds, the political forces will also support other activities to commemorate the feat of April and of the current popular struggle against the theft of public money by political crime.”
