The capital’s water utility scrambles to confront drought

Santo Domingo.- Santo Domingo Water Utility (CAASD) director Alejandro Montas on Wednesday announced extended assistance to citizens and a plan to deal with the drought, which has led a 50 percent drop in the flow of rivers that supply Greater Santo Domingo’s aqueducts.

He said among the emergency measures to deal with the drought the utility rented 15 additional tanker trucks to deliver drinking water to sectors free-of charge.

"The truth is that the drought is already affecting us, the flow of Isa, Mana and Haina rivers have dropped substantially. We’ve resorted to emergency programs," Montas said in a statement.
