Agents seize pure cocaine in pigeon peas

Santo Domingo.-The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) and the Dominican postal service on Thursday announced the confiscation of nearly one kilo of cocaine hidden in a can of pigeon peas and ink cartridges.

The two shipments headed to New York and Spain were detected at Postal headquarters during routine inspection and forensics determined it was pure cocaine, said DNCD spokesman Dario Medrano.

He said one of the shipments was addressed to a woman resident of Queens, New York, sent by another woman in Santiago and the other was sent by a resident in Santo Domingo to a person in Barcelona, Spain.

Medrano said the DNCD investigates both cases to determine the origin of the shipments.
