Dominican TV commentator links 5 mayors to alleged kingpin(Update)

Santo Domingo.- Popular TV commentator Aridio Castillo on Tuesday affirmed that five mayors which he didn’t name took loans for their campaigns from Yuber E. Mendez (Oegnito), and believed that the alleged kingpin “would rot in a jail” in the United Sates.

“Four mayors from the capital (Greater Santo Domingo) and one from the interior took loans from Oreganito and now they don’t want to repay,” Castillo said on El Show del Mediodia, the country’s leading daytime TV program, on Colorvision Channel 9.

File.- National Police chief Manuel Castro on Tuesday said he’ll ask Justice minister Francisco Dominguez to expedite the arrest warrants against those who tried to kill alleged drug kingpin Yuber Enriquez Mendez (Oreganito) last week.

He said he will provide details about Mendez at any time but for now the case is being handled so discreetly that the Police hasn’t even revealed who owns the Mitsubishi SUV which the gunmen left abandoned at the Plaza Lama parking lot when they fled.

Mendez is recovering at Dominican Medical Center from a wound requiring surgery after a bullet hit him in the back and exited through his neck.

Also recovering from a wound at National Police hospital is private guard Milan Cortorreal, who was hurt in the shootout.
