Judge’s ruling keeps the ‘Cockfighter’ behind bars

Santo Domingo.- Monte Plata (east) Instruction Court judge Mercedes Sena on Wednesday ruled to keep Winston Rizik (El Gallero ‘cockfighter’) in pretrial detention, charged forming part of a money laundering and drug trafficking network.

The judge ruled for the prosecution’s request to uphold a lower court’s order handed down December 3 2014 to keep the defendant in custody, noting that Rizik’s defense didn’t provide any new evidence to justify his release on bond

Rizik’s lawyers Freddy Castillo, Pedro Duarte Canaan and Wilson Alejandro Gutiérrez had motioned the court to release their client outright or on bail.
