Ex-LA Dodgers slugger faces Dominican jail in US$1.6M fraud case
Republic.- The San Cristobal Court of Appeals will arraign San Cristobal (south) mayor Raul Mondesi today Friday, on charges he embezzled RD$70 million (US$1.6 million) during 2012.
Justice Ministry Anticorruption Dept. (Pepca) director Laura Guerrero said she’ll request pretrial detention against the former slugger of the los Angeles Dodgers, who has been suspended from the post.
She said an Accounts Chamber audit found irregular fuel purchases and contracts, vehicle rentals, tax fraud and nepotism among other violations.
