Incumbent wins with 62.6% to opposition leader’s 17.4%: Poll

Santo Domingo.- If the national elections were held today, 10 months prior to next year’s presidential polls, president and ruling PLD party candidate Danilo Medina would win with 62.6%, to opposition PRM party candidate Luis Abinader’s 17.4%.

The Gallup-HOY poll also found that minority opposition party Al-Pais candidate Guillermo Moreno would get 3.6% of the vote; Federico Antun (PRSC) 1.2%, and Amable Aristy (PLR), less than 1%.

Medina’s strength is mostly among women, since 70 percent would vote for the incumbent, compared with 56 percent of men.

The poll contracted by newspaper Hoy interviewed 1,200 adults in all regions from July 1 to 5, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8% and a confidence level of 95%.
