Relentless San Francisco protesters: Mayor embezzled RD$400.0M+

Santo Domingo.- San Francisco de Macoris social and community groups staged another in a series of protest this time in front of the Justice Ministry on Wednesday to demand the indictment of that city’s mayor Felix Manuel Rodriguez, charged with embezzlement.

Among the group of protesters figure Falpo, which waved banners asking the Supreme Court schedule a hearing on the appeal filed by the prosecution against a lower court ruling that acquitted the mayor.

"Over 400 million were embezzled from the City Council, which were for the major works of our town and we demand a response to the case of San Francisco, enough silence aready," protester Odiles Morel told El Caribe.

"The appeal was filed and the Supreme Court has yet to rule, we’re here because we understand that it smacks of suspicion and again we see that corruption is being favored, corruption is not being confronted,” said Raul Monegro, of FALPO.

The Santo Domingo province Court of Appeals had ruled for Rodriguez on charges he embezzled more than RD$400.0 million from City Hall.
