Foreign thugs could be behind spate of holdups: Top investigator

Santo Domingo.- NationalInvestigations Dept. (DNI) director Sigfrido Pared on Wednesday said internationalrings could be behind the latest spate of holdups and crimes across the country,including the millions robbed at Cibao (Santiago) Airport’s Customs.

“They could also be linked to drug trafficking somehow,”the official told reporters at the National Palace.

Pared said the DNI has launched an investigation based onthe information available, and then pass on its findings to the NationalPolice. "There are reports we have of this type, but we’re still in aprocess to verify them and then pass it to the police."
