Truckers block Dominican Republic´s eastern highway

Santo Domingo.- Aconflict among truckers unions over routes and vehicles in Higuey has led to ahalt of traffic on the Coral highway between the towns Otra Banda and Punta Cana, eastern Dominican Republic.

Higuey MIA-TV reportsthat the unions have parked numerous trucks, blocking the city´s southern andeastern entrances, forcing traffic to detour towards the town of El Seibo.

According to theoutlet, the truckers union SICHOPROBOCA of Higuey is behind the strike, over a conflictwith a rival organization.

Some employees of thehotels said they had been stranded on the highway as long as four hours.

The shutdownreportedly emerged over ownership of a pickup truck confiscated as the resultof a lawsuit.
