What most troubles Dominicans is still corruption

Santo Domingo.- Corruptionand overall crime are still what most troubles Dominicans, says the Americas Barometerlatest survey made in 2014.

The poll whichanalyzes the reality of 25 countries in the region found that Dominicans´ view ongovernment corruption hasn’t changed much from 2004 to 2014, still at 76.3points on average.

The view that corruptionis widespread is common since more than half (53%) of those polled say corruptionis "very widespread" while 29% called it "somewhat widespread."

Dominicans view governmentcorruption as exceeding the region´s average, ranked eighth on that indicator.

The survey, which didn’tprovide the number of people polled or margin of error, notes that “crime andcorruption and the perception of these violations of the rule of law, canundermine public support for the democratic system that allows these evils to persistor intensify.”
