X-Ray machines have been down since 20l4: Airports chief

Santo Domingo.- AirportsDept. director Marino Collante on Monday revealed that in 20l4 he had informedthe Customs Agency that the X-ray machines had were out of service, not only inthe Las Americas terminal, but also in Santiago´s Cibao Airport.

Quoted bydiariolibre.com, the official said he told Customs director Fernando Fernandez ofthe outage in a missive sent June 30, 2014 and also sent another letter to theofficial explaining the problem in December that same year.

The official said he toldFernandez that inoperable X-ray machines was a seriousproblem since Customs inspectors have check baggage manually, causing delaysfor passengers. "It´s of great interest to the Airports Department, as theState´s supervisory agency in the international airports, promoting standardsof quality and safety of services in the various areas of the airterminals"
