Mayor of Dominican Republic´s biggest city is shot dead(Update3)

Santo Domingo.- The mayor ofDominican Republic´s biggest city was shot dead around noon Tuesday his officesof the Dominican Federation of Municipalities, allegedly by a councilman from anunspecified city, local TV report.

De los Santos, who was mayor of Santo DomingoEste, the country´s biggest and most highly populated city, was allegedly shotdead by an employee of DEDOMU, who also killed a security guard before takinghis own life.

De los Santos was also the ownerof Juancito Sport, one of the country´s biggest chains of betting parlors.

Local media report thatthe shooter has been identified only as “Luis,” who allegedly had worked inFEDOMU

The fatal victim was amember of the ruling PLD party´s top echelon, the Political Committee, and had been confirmed as its candidate torepeat in his post. He was one of the country´s most easy-going politicians.

He was reportedly shot twice, once in the head and in the chest.
