18 Immigration inspectors nabbed in drug, people trafficking probe: Report

Santo Domingo.- 18 ImmigrationAgency (DGM) inspectors were arrested and escorted in handcuffs from agency headquartersThursday morning on an investigation into alleged trafficking in persons and drugsin airports and ports.

Quoting a source,elnacional.com.do said the inspectors work in several airports and ports in thecountry, and among those arrested figures the US embassy and Immigration liaison.

“It was learned thatthe arrests came after a visit by an influential official of the US Embassy to Immigrationdirector Ruben Paulino, who confirmed that inspectors are being investigated,and we suspect a network which accompanied the people," the outlet said,quoting the source.

It adds that theinspectors work in Las Americas, Punta Cana, Santiago and Puerto Plata airports,whereas the others are assigned to Haina and Caucedo ports.
