Chief warns against bribes, reveals Police corruption

Santo Domingo.-National Police chief Nelson Peguero on Friday warned his general officers he won’tbe bribed or accept privileges to designate them to the various posts.

In his statement the officialreveals the widespread corruption in the Police, where promotions are obtainedwith payoffs, a practice also present in the military branches.

Peguero said the positionsand promotions within the Police will be awarded by merit and not by givingmoney to the chief.

He also admitted weaknessesin the control of its personnel, but pledged to correct it with the use ofsoftware acquired for that purpose.
