Most suspected zika cases are from the capital

SantoDomingo.- The Public Health Minister announced Friday that epidemiologicalvigilance continues in the country in the face of the threat of the zika virus,and confirmed that they are monitoring five suspected cases of the disease.

Duringa press conference, Altagracia Guzmán Marcelino said that three of the suspectedcases were in the National District, one was in Santo Domingo East and anotherin Boca Chica. The patients are suffering from fever and skin rash.

Theminister said that samples have been sent to the Center for Disease Control andPrevention in Atlanta (CDC), and that the results should be ready next week.

Thepress conference was also attended by Ramón Alvarado, director of the NationalHealth Service, Nelson Rodríguez, vice minister of Collective Health, JoséManuel Puello, director of Population Health, and Raquel Pimentel, director ofEpidemiology, among others.
