US envoy says Dominicans want open, transparent elections

Santo Domingo.- The USgovernment expects next May´s general elections to be an “open and transparentprocess" that would bolster Dominican Republic´s democracy.
US ambassador James W.Brewster made the statement and stressed that Washington expects to continueworking with the administration which emerges from the polls. He also noted thatthat´s what Dominicans expect.
Moreover the diplomat saidthe US will continue to fight corruption.
"With regard tocorruption, I understand that it´s not a onetime circumstance, specific or ofone occasion; What I understand is that we should never stop in the fightagainst corruption, " the diplomat said.
Brewster spoke at UNIBEUniversity after presenting the "USAID read" project which seeks toimprove the levels of learning in Dominican students. The US$20.0 million initiativeis expected to benefit 200,000 grade school students over the next five years.
