Dominican Army attacks mosquitos where they breed

Santiago.- TheDominican Army on Monday started eradicating the Aedes aegypti mosquitobreeding sites, after president Danilo Medina signed an executive order Saturday,instructing the Public Health and Defense ministries to fight the dengue,chikungunya and zika viruses.

Army spokesman Puro dela Cruz said Defense minister Máximo Muñoz ordered the more than 600 soldiers tostart the cleanup in the sprawling barrio Los Guaricanos of Villa Mella northof the capital, one of the neighborhoods where a high presence of the mosquito issuspected.

The official said brigadeswill be in the military neighborhoods and in Santiago, San Pedro, San Juan andElías Piña, Valverde, Dajabón, Barahona and Jimani provinces.

"The Army is undergeneral quartered and all its troops are now in cleanup operations, which willbe complemented tomorrow (Tuesday) with fumigations coordinated with the PublicHealth Ministry."
