Dominican Republic leader gets 54.8%: Poll

Santo Domingo.- PresidentDanilo Medina´s wide to lead in the vote intention polls leading to the May 15 generalelections continue, according to a survey released Monday.

Pollster Asisa Researchfound that if the elections were held today, ruling party (PLD) candidateDanilo Medina would win with 54.8% of the vote, to opposition party (PRM) rivalLuis Abinader´s 38.6%.

The survey places minorityAl-Pais candidate, Guillermo Moreno in third place with 3% of the vote.

Asisa business manager DaniloGuzman said 2.9% of those asked declined a response, but some mentioned candidatesSoraya Aquino and Minou Tavarez Mirabal, despite not figuring on the officialballot.

Guzman said the poll,which interviewed 1,204 eligible voters between January 10 and 11, was commissionedby a group of north region industrialists whose names he didn’t provide.
