Foreigners who qualified for legal status can get ID at Immigration

Santo Domingo.- Interior and Police minister Jose RamonFadul on Monday said the foreigners who applied for the government’s regularizationprogram and who have yet to obtain their ID card should retrieve it at ImmigrationAgency offices.

He said 47,000 people mostly of Haitian descent have yet toretrieve the document proving their legality in Dominican territory.

Of the 239,000 people who qualified for legal migratorystatus, Interior and Police has already issued 192,000 IDs, including migratorycards and the sticker for passports.

Fadul reiterated that the foreigners, mostly Haitians, mustgo to the Immigration office to obtain their document.

Interior and Police deputy minister Washington González in earlyJanuary said the Ministry had 52,665 documents ready to be issued to the foreigners.

Gonzalez said of the 288,466 undocumented immigrants who registeredfor the program, 239,956 qualified (83%).
