Political frenzy as 24,442 candidates eye 4,106 posts

Santo Domingo.- Now that the Easter holidays are in therearview mirror, Dominican Republic’s political parties on Monday will resume thepolitical campaign ahead of the May 15 general elections.

Starting today and until May 13, a total 24,442 candidates willstump in the streets for 4,106 elected posts, with 6,765,136 eligible voters.

Some 26 parties and seven local movements proposecandidates for the various posts

The electoral scenario is polarized between the ruling PLD partyand the major opposition party PRM.

The PLD announced a rally tomorrow Tuesday at the SansSouci Convention Center with delegates from around the country, to be headed bypresident and presidential candidate Danilo Medina and PLD president LeonelFernandez.
