Dominican VP office starts construction of blood bank network

Santo Domingo.- Vice president Margarita Cedeño broke ground for the construction of the first National Blood Center, which will be part of a modern network of blood banks aimed at meeting the population’s blood demand and saving lives.

According to El Nuevo Diario, the first blood center, located in Santo Domingo North, will receive, process and distribute blood and blood products (platelets, red blood cells, plasma, etc.) to health centers for free.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, it was revealed that the initiative also includes the opening of branches in other regions such as Cibao, East and South.

The initiative is aimed at putting an end to the traditionally poor service of blood banks in the Dominican Republic which did not benefit people living in extreme poverty.
