Staging of May 15 elections more than 70% advanced

Santo Domingo.- The staging of the May 15 general electionsis more than 70 percent advanced with just 24 days to the polls with 4,106government posts up for grab for the more than 24,400 candidates from 26parties.

Central Electoral Board (JCE) president Roberto Rosario onWednesday said process advances “fully according to schedule.”

The official said more than 156,000 people will work in theelectoral process, with more than 127,000 citizens already trained to work in variouspolling stations.

On the request by the civic movement Citizen Participation fora manual count of 15 percent of the ballots, Rosario said he and JCE heard all theparties and the JCE "went beyond what was asked. All actors in the system mustnow cooperate with the Board, to do things the best way possible."
