Amid shouts, insults, Dominicans flock to vote in New York

New York.- Amid arguments, shouting and insults, a throngof Dominicans on Sunday afternoon flocked to a polling station set up near UpperManhattan’s South Beach restaurant, where they awaited official election resultsafter casting their ballots.

Supporters of the ruling PLD party and of the oppositionPRM, both claimed victory and argued heatedly.

Many Dominican voters who arrived after 6pm weren’t able tocast a ballot and had complained that the Electoral Board didn’t extend thevoting, as was done in their country.

Despite technical glitches early Sunday the PLD and PRM delegatesand JCE officials had agreed in lauding the process in New York where there wasa massive participation of voters, who at around 8pm were still standing in linesat some polling stations.
