Vote count confirms Dominican Republic leader wins reelection

Santo Domingo.- President Danilo Medina has won reelectionin last Sunday’s polls as his lead over rival Luis Abinader exceeds the numberof votes still to count in the Electoral Board’s 8th bulletin releasedWednesday night.

With 87.07% of the ballots counted Medina has 2,478,023votes to his closest contender’s 1,068,841, with 1,018,915 yet to tally, whichmeans Abinader cannot win even if he was to get them all.

The tally also shows a 29.62 percent abstention.

As to the vote for parties, the ruling PLD has 2.18 million,or 50.25 percent, the PRM has 1. 81 million, or 26.92%, the PRD 233, 242 votes,or 5.81% and the PRSC 225,754 votes, or 5.62%.
