Warrants issued for at least 6 suspects in drivers’ murders

San Pedro, Dominican Republic.- The Office of theProsecutor of San Pedro de Macoris has identified at least six suspects namedin as many arrest warrants in connection with the gang that killed taxi, truckand bus drivers to steal their vehicles, and then allegedly sell them in Haiti.

Although they didn’t reveal the names, they are the mainsuspects in the ‘Pit of Executioners’ case of murders and vehicle thefts which has rocked the Eastregion.

They said the gang, five of whose alleged members are incustody, hired bus, taxi s and truck drivers for transport services or tours,and then gagged, placed a plastic bag over their head and hurled thempresumably alive down a pit.

The case broke when, after several days since reportedmissing, four of the drivers’ bodies were found in a 30-meter deep pit, in an abandonedhouse in the town Juan Dolio. Another victim’s body was found tied to a cinder blockin the Higuamo River in San Pedro.

Charged thus far have been Radhames Ramirez Rodriguez andJaime Valentin Encarnacion, both being held to await trial.
