Dominican-born lawmakers eye US Congressional seat

Santo Domingo.- Dominican lawmakers Adriano Espaillat, a formerstate senator from District 31, and Guillermo Linares, assemblyman for District72, now seek to unseat Charles Rangel in the US 13th Congressional Districtand will take part with other candidates in a debate set for 6pm Thursday atthe Bronx Museum, on 1040 Grand Concourse with 165th St.

During the debate, all applicants will have the chance topresent their platforms to the African-American and Latino communities and howthey’d deal with their needs, such as visas, access to health care andimmigration reform.

It’s the third time Espaillat, Linares and other US congressionalhopefuls willdebate the issues of the 13th District, which includes the overwhelmingly Dominicanneighborhoods of Washington Heights and Inwood. Also sectors of Marble Hill,Morningside Heights, parts of the Upper West Side in the West Bronx, andHarlem.
