Dominican agents seize nearly a ton of drug

Santo Domingo.- The National Drugs Control Agency (DNCD)seized 919 bricks of presumably cocaine or heroin, on a beach in San Pedro deMacoris (east), after intercepting the boat that brought the drug fromColombia.

DNCD spokesman Dario Medrano said arrestedduring the operation were two Colombians and three Dominicans, including thereputed drug trafficker "Kilo Julito," linked to the network of PascualCabrera and Dario Gasolina.

The drug in 36 sacks of between 25 and 30 packages each wasseized at Playa Caletón, where the boat arrived.

The official said there are two individuals being sought inthe case.

He said a second boat with an outboard motor was seized atPlaya del Muerto beach, also in San Pedro.

Medrano said structure during several months they werelooking into a powerful ring that shipped drugs from South America to the DominicanRepublic, then on to the United States and Europe.
