18 dead, 12 hurt in Dominican Republic truck crash(Update)

Santo Domingo.- Eighteen people were killed and 12 woundedwhen two trucks collided head-on Saturday night on the Nagua-Sánchez road(northwest), Dominican Republic’s transit authority (AMET) said in a tweet.

The victims were riding in the Daihatsu truck reportedlyreturning from a religious service when it collided with a Mack tractor trailerat 10:30pm at the crossing in the town of Majagua.

AMET spokesman Diego Pesqueira tweeted that the accidentoccurred nine kilometers west of Sánchez. “The bodies have been removed by CivilDefense and the authorities are working to identify the deceased and theinjured.”
