‘People’s’ court sentences Dominican electoral chief to 30 years

Santo Domingo.- Dozens of people gathered Monday in theupscale Naco district’s La Lira park for the People’s 1st ElectoralFraud Trial, to protest the numerous irregularities uncovered during DominicanRepublic’s general elections on May 15.

In the mock trial that began at 4pm led by opposition PRM partysenior leader Roberto Furcal, the “People” convicted Central Electoral Board(JCE) president Roberto Rosario of electoral fraud and was “sentenced” to 30years in jail and must serve it at La Victoria prison.

In a statement the Coalition said the activated marks thestart of popular trials, headed by opposition candidates who participated inthe elections, along with other political forces and civil society representatives.

It said for the coming days it has organized an artisticpresentation and other expressions of political aspirations, economic andsocial benefits which it affirms Dominican society is entitled to.
