Tucanogate: Prosecution seeks to jail 4, including ex Defense chief

Santo Domingo.- The Office of the Anticorruption prosecutoron Friday requested pretrial detention against former Armed Forces ministerPedro Rafael Peña Antonio; active Air Force Col. Carlos Piccini and businessmenDaniel Aquino Hernandez and his son Daniel Aquino Méndez, on charges of moneylaundering and bribery in the case of the purchase of the Super Tucano combatplanes.

Permanent Attention judge Raquel Dolangen Vasquez is expectedto rule on the prosecution’s request today Friday.

The four defendants were escorted to the courtroom from thejail on the fourth floor of the Ciudad Nueva Courthouse in the capital at 8:20am,but hearing hadn’t started as of 9:45am.
