Fire aboard San Juan-Santo Domingo ferry, no injuries reported

San Juan, Puerto Rico.-Afire possibly caused by mechanical problems broke out aboard the CaribbeanFantasy ferry as it headed to San Juan port on Wednesday, Primera Hora reports.

The boat with as many as 500 people on board was sighted with smoke billowing as it passed nextto the power plant at Palo Seco, Toa Baja, Puerto Rico police said.

First response agency (PREMA) director Angel Crespo confirmedthe information and said they are looking for ways to safely steer the ship to port.

Other first responders tweeted that the fire broke out inthe engine room of the ship that plies the San Juan-Santo Domingo route.

Police said there are around 512 passengers on the boat thatwill be steered to the pier at Viejo San Juan. In the large area trafficcongestion it reported.

There are no reports of injuries thus far.
