Rangers quell wildfire in central highlands

Santo Domingo.- The Environment Ministry on Friday said it hasdoused a wildfire that was detected Thursdayin the El Rubio district, in the highland town of San Jose de las Matas(central) , Santiago province.

It said several fire brigades from the Santiago Provincial Office,first responders and volunteers managed to control the blaze that charred dozensof hectares, that was caused by mismanagement of the town’s landfill.

In a statement, Environment adds that once alerted of thefire, forest rangers were deployed around the site of mostly pine forests, andwas quickly brought under control.
