Dominican leader doles out the ‘political booty’

Santo Domingo.- From second level positions such as head ofthe Cooperative Credit Development Institute (Idecoop) to key posts such as theDominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC), president Danilo Medina on Wednesdayannounced more repartitions of the State “pie.”

He not only designated politicos considered collaboratorsof former president Leonel Fernandez of the ruling party (PLD), but also leadersof the pro-government party (PRD), whose president Miguel Vargas was tapped as Foreign Minister, despite having anyknow experience in diplomacy.

Medina’s Executive orders also designates new directors of theGeneral Accounting Office, the Dominican Port Authority, the National HousingInstitute (INVI) and the Governmental Ethics Committee.

Also the heads of the Presidency’s Social Plan, the ElectricitySuperintendence, among other important posts.

The social networks were immediately abuzz in with the designations,that some describe as “political booty, or the milking of the State cow.”
