Wildfire in National Park under control (Update)

Santo Domingo.-The Environment Ministry on Friday said the wildfire first detected Thursdaynight at El Morro National Park, Montecristi (northwest), has been put out.

Environmentminister Francisco Dominguez said Environment technicians are at the scene toobtain accurate information as soon as possible, to determine the origin of theblaze.

File- Montecristi, Dominican Republic.- A wildfire is charring apart of the monolith El Morro, in Montecristi National Park (northwest) sinceThursday night, as firefighters have been unable to control thus far.

The fire, which started Thursday evening a few meters fromthe road on the mountain’s foothills had spread over areas of the higher partof the protected.

Environment Ministry crews and the Montecristi Fire Dept.try to douse the intense flames.

Environment minister Francisco Dominguez tweeted that strongwinds have spread the fire, adding that the area of El ??Morro has a veryfragile ecosystem prone to wildfires, whose flames spread quickly. “It’s a factthat there were humanhands in the fire at El Morro of Montecristi.”
