Downpours trigger flash flooding alerts

SantoDomingo.- The downpours since early Tuesday along the Caribbean coast, the eastand central regions will continue and expand to other areas during theafternoon and evening.

The National WeatherOffice (Onamet) says a trough over the forecast area and a stationary lowpressure system north of Puerto Rico is causing the downpours.

Onamet saidthe system will continue to bring rain over most regions during the next 24 to48 hours, for which it issued flash flood and landslide warnings for residents nearlow lying areas, rivers and streams.
