Rains continue in North; 248 evacuated, 42 homes damaged

Santo Domingo.- The Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported Monday that 248 people have been evacuated and 42 homes damaged by the heavy rains in the last few hours.

The agency maintains several northern and northeastern provinces on alert for flash floods from swelled rivers, as well as landslides.

The Civil Defense reported some 16 homes damaged and about 80 people displaced in Cevicos, Sánchez Ramírez province(northeast).

In Valverde province (northwest) meanwhile, the Yaguajay river rose above its banks, damaging 21 homes and forced 105 people to evacuate and go to makeshift shelters, Civil Defense said.
