Officers round up even Haitians with papers

Santo Domingo.- Haitians with proper papers especially students are rounded up and sometimes beaten by Quiet City Joint Task Force (Ciutran) officers, Human Rights Observatory and Haitian Students Association in the Dominican Republic denounced Monday.

“When they are arrested, regardless of whether they show their legal documents, are taken to their mobile jails and if they refuse are physically assaulted,” said activist Juan Alberto Francisco.

Quoted by eldia.com.do, Francisco said that the Ciutran officers don’t have devices to verify the authenticity of the Foreigner Regularization IDs so they ask the Immigration Agency to provide them to its agents.
