Santo Domingo.- Santiago mayor Abel A. Martnez gave RD$2.2 billion (US$45.8 million) to several government officials for “donations, purchase of appliances and meals” during the 2010-2016 period, when he was president of the Chamber of Deputies, according to an Accounts Chamber audit.

The donations began in 2010 with RD$61.3 million and reached as high as with RD$593.3 million in 2012.

Two audits on the Chamber of Deputies from 2010 to 2015, in the heading “Other Non-Personal Services,” show that the former lawmaker made continuously higher donations during those six years: RD$61.3 million in 2010 and; RD$29.8 million in 2011.

“These disbursements correspond to donations, purchases of appliances and purchases of food rations, to be distributed through different officials,” the Accounts Chamber says in the statistics table on “Other Non-Personal Services,” quoted by acento.com.do.
