Telecom Agency calls ‘4.5G network’ a commercial name

Santo Domingo.- Dominican Telecom Institute (INDOTEL) president Jose del Castillo on Monday said there’s no 4.5G network in the Dominican Republic, because that term isn’t an official standard of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

“The 4.5G, 4×4 or whatever you want to call it is not an official standard of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). There is 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G,” said del Castillo, interviewed in Hoy Mismo, Color Vision channel 9.

The official added that 4.5 G and 4 4 are eminently commercial terms tp showcase or present consumer improvements to the 4G network.

Del Castillo’s affirmation comes in the heels of statements by telecom expert Hiddekel Morrison on Jul. 18, when he refuted a local telephone service provider’s claim of “having the country’s first and only 4.5G network.”
