Landfill contract one step closer to termination: Environment

Santo Domingo.- Environment minister Francisco Domínguez on Thurs. said the NGO that would manage the Duquesa landfill was already formed in case the court ruled for that ministry, on the lawsuit filed by the contractor Lajun Corporation.

The official said representatives from the Herrera Industries Association of, the Dominican Republic Tourism Cluster, the Academy of Science and the Dominican Republic Industry Association (AIRD), among others would form part of the entity. “We have already registered the name and are preparing the statutes and preparing ourselves legally.”

He said he expects the authorities and justice to support Environment’s action, because in his view, would avert a health crisis in Greater Santo Domingo.

He reiterated that Duquesa is still under an emergency due to pollution and mismanagement.

“Today there are long lines, the situation is critical. We’re in discussion among all the actors, because this cannot continue like this and we won’t allow it.”
