Dominican Rep. 2nd in road carnage again

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Republic is again the second, out of the 182 UN member countries, with a 41.7% death rate in traffic accidents, second only to Niue Island in the Pacific, with 68.3%.

According to the Interior and Police Ministry, 2,122 people lost their lives last year, victims of traffic accidents, 8% more than in 2015.

Dr. César Mella provided the grim figures on Wed. during his participation in the 10th annual Security and Defense Summit 2017, ‘Strengthening Road Safety,’ hosted by the Global Foundation for Democracy and Development (Funglode).

A previous ranking also placed the Dominican Republic in the second spot, behind only Vanuatu, also in the Pacific.
